From Actress to Assistant Market Developer
You can feel the positive energy of former Broadway actress Dionna Capers over the phone as she takes some time out of her now very busy schedule to sit and chat about being newly promoted to Assistant Market Developer at Phoenix Brand Management Group.
Life didn’t go exactly as planned when Dionna arrived in Atlanta, GA. The Ghanaian born, east coast raised beauty originally came to Atlanta for acting after finishing up film school in New York but, after interviewing with Phoenix, decided to go down another road.
Dionna says, “Phoenix has a different dynamic that I’ve never seen before as far as culture and values. They stress family and love and it doesn’t matter the gender, experience, or race the individual comes from. You don’t find that when it comes to marketing and corporate organizations. It’s not a restrictive culture, where its uptight and you must walk on eggshells. That’s what made me want to be a part of Phoenix.”
Dionna appreciates the value of family that Phoenix promotes as she comes from a close-knit family with various career paths. She has a brother who’s a doctor and two sisters; one who works in education and another who works as a broker at Goldman and Sachs.
Despite the compatibility with Phoenix, the road, however, hasn’t always been easy. She says that she still struggles with finding a balance between being a natural nurturer and being assertive when leading her peers. She states, “It’s about being held to a high standard not only for myself but those around me that I am also coaching and teaching and working with on a daily basis.”
Despite her struggles, Dionna remains positive about the future. She says the biggest takeaway so far is her own personal development. “I’ve been with the company going on 6 months now and I’m a lot better than when I came in mentally, physically, and emotionally.”
She says she is looking forward to the day when she owns her own business.

Phoenix Brand Management is headquartered in Atlanta and has a national reach but the southeast is considered their hub. Internal talks amongst the elite hint at possible expansions on the west coast and the northeast in the coming months, although CJ and Hamb remain tightlipped about future plans.
“All we can say at this point is the best is yet to come,” says Hamb.
With the new expansion and the launch of multiple new campaigns comes opportunity for new employment, for internal career growth and for personal and professional development in Atlanta. On the coattails of this new partnership, the company has launched their new hiring initiative.
